The National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy in the heart of Edinburgh are undergoing major refurbishments. The two buildings, both designed by William Playfair, are to be linked together through a new underground gallery, dramatically set against Princes Street Gardens. Once finished, they will provide Edinburgh with galleries which can host international exhibitions as well as housing their own stunning permanent collection.
