Haydn Trio Eisenstadt - Scottish Songs
The young Austrian ensemble Haydn Trio Eisenstadt together with the well-known Scottish singers Lorna Anderson and Jamie MacDougall, have embarked on a recording project of 18 CDs of the largely unknown Haydn 425 Scottish Songs on the Brilliant Classics label (Joan Records). The project will be launched formally at the Austrian Embassy in London on 31 January 2005. Haydn was commissioned to compose these arrangements by the Edinburgh publisher George Thomson and his musical genius created the perfect accompaniments and arrangements for the folk melodies, elevating them to first-class lieder. Tours are planned in January 2005, October 2005 and various periods in 2006.
The completion of the recording project will coincide with the bicentenary of Haydn's death and the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth in 2009.
