Charismatic Malaysian-born conductor Harish Shankar enjoys an ever-increasing global presence on the podium. From this season he is 1. Kapellmeister at the Meininger Staatstheater and Chief Conductor Designate of the Theater Erfurt in Germany. Previously held positions including 1. Kapellmeister at the Theater & Philharmonisches Orchester Vorpommern and Resident Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Hailed for his finely-honed skill and passionate conducting, Mr Shankar was a prize winner of the 2015 International Jorma Panula Conducting Competition.
This season Harish will also make his debuts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North as well as the Orchestra of the Landestheater Coburg, where he will also conduct Bizet’s Carmen.
Last season saw his debuts with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Philharmonisches Orchester Erfurt. He also conducted Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette at the Theater Aachen, Bizet’s Carmen at the Meininger Staatstheater and Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
Highlights of previous seasons include his debuts with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, BBC Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in the UK, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, a series of symphony concerts with the Philharmonisches Orchester Vorpommern in both Stralsund and Greifswald and performances of La Boheme at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven. …
